13/07/2009 - Beck's & Burgers

We left home for the Beckham academy down on numbers with the bare 6 players (no subs) until Tom Harrison worked wonders with his mobile and had recruited 2 mates within half an hour.

Getting there was a bit of an ordeal with the Jubilee line closure adding to the challenge. That meant a 30 mins bus ride through the scenic east end.

Eventually we got there and soon realised that not only were we the youngest team by far, average age being about 25, the standard of teams was very good also.........not a beer gut in sight, apart from mine of course!

To cut a long story short we didn't win any of our games but, we got through to the second round by default (2 teams dropped out)

In our last game we faced one of the strongest teams in the round, an absolute battering was about to take place......................er well believe it or not we were the ones doing the battering.

We absolutely played the team off the pitch but unluckily lost seconds from the end.

I think it must have been the 14 hamburgers that Wendy Foley bought from the van outside after the boys moaned about being tired and hungry in the early rounds.

Summary

Credit goes to the guys, they blew us away with their determination in the last game, can't believe the level you took your football to, well done!

Thanks to the parents for their support, also JP and Ben who were fantastic!

I will Im glad to say be continuing my involvement with the club both as a committee member and manager of next season's U14's.

26/05/2009 - UNDER 11s WIN YEADING TOURNAMENT

Northolt Eagles under 11’s won the Yeading tournament on Saturday afternoon.

We had two teams in the age group Reds & Whites.

Jason Town managed the red team and got them playing some great stuff

Joe Bonds took charge of the whites and led them all the way.

The Eagles reds won 4 league games and drew 1, having played some of the best football I have seen from a group of players of that age, they cruised to the top of the table.

The Whites won 3 league games and lost 2, they finished runners up in the league which meant our two teams had to face each other in the ¼ finals.

The ¼ final was always going to be hard as they are all mates, especially for the whites as the reds were playing very well, how wrong I was! The whites came out of the blocks like a steam train and scored in the first minute or so, to be honest they could have been a “couple up” but for Ben Frailing in goal.

Daniel Anderson and Tylah Collister were causing all sorts of problems for the reds and before long it was 2-0.

2nd half the reds stepped up a gear making Hugh Beasley produce some fine saves, the reds did get one back but overall I think our white team pipped them with pure desire and spirited defending.

Game finished 2-1 to whites and all the boys were very sporting.

Me I just watched with pride/pleasure especially as the whites beat St Josephs in the semi’s and Hounslow Colts in the final both on penalties.

I would like to thank everyone, both team’s parents and players who stayed to cheer the whites on, making it an unbelievable atmosphere, when the final penalty went in from Kai Milne all the red & white team were running on the pitch jumping up and down, there was cuddling, tears of joy from the players and parents, it was fantastic.

I feel we represented Northolt Eagles with pride.

05/05/2009 - U13's Win fair play award for the 3rd time

The U13's have won the fair play award at the Isle of Wight football festival and it is the 3rd time the team has won it. The boys received their trophy from none other than Razor Ruddock although Im sure some of them probably only know him from Im a celebrity but us dads knew him well enough from his football days and I couldn't not let Joseph as a Liverpool fc man not go up to meet him which he seemed to enjoy a lot. The boys and their familys had a great time and represented the club brilliantly both on and off the field. Although results didn't go our way it didn't affect the boy's enjoyment of the weekend and after all with staying up late and getting up early its bound to affect your performance! I was very proud of all the boys with the way they conducted themselves on the field in the face of some very strong opposition, and all the boys I encountered at various times around the holiday park were a pleasure to bump into and were behaving in a manner that was a credit to our club and their parents so well done to all!

Apart from the obvious football activity a personal highlight for me was the Saturday bbq we had outside my caravan with all the players and parents present and our child welfare officer June who came over to show her support, it was great to spend some quality time with all of you and special thanks must go to Sharon, Sally, Helen for getting the food in and the other mums who chipped in with helping to prepare it, also the chefs Mick and Paul who were very adept on the cooking, although Pauls first attempt at the sausages left a lot to be desired!!!

It would be wrong of me to not to name check the players in a big thank you so well done to the following : Eoin Higgins, Jack Moore, Jordan Allen, Carl Gibson, Drilon Veliu, Sean Freegard, Alex Wareing, Edward Yousif, Jordan Laidlaw, Dawid Doruch, Kerry Warren, Luke Church, Jack marsh and Ian Harvey. And my cohorts Paul Harvey, Joseph Yousif and Phil Wareing for their support. And last but not least a big big thank you to all you parents for supporting the trip and providing fantastic company over the weekend.
