Eagles show their potential
By Gordon Beasley.

On a heavy pitch that was never going to produce good football the Eagles saw off their fellow title challenger is a close game on Sunday morning. It was an important win.

The first half started slowly with both teams taking time to get into their stride. Both sides gave the ball away far too easily particularly in midfield and it was not until 5 minutes were on the clock that the first recent opportunity was created. This fell to the visitors when a good through ball spelt danger but Hugh was quickly off his line and kicked clear. A quick cross back in by the opposition was well cleared by Sam

Eagles then had their first chance and this time down the right. Joe hit a good ball into the box for Luke to run onto and whilst he got his shot in the keeper made a good save. Kyle and Callum in particular made a series of good challenges as neither penalty area came under threat for a while. An eagles corner got cleared and the ball fell to Tylah who hit a good volley just over the bar.

At this stage the game was still even but the Eagles were sticking to their task well.

On 25 minutes Eagles failed to clear a corner and a snap shot by a visiting forward was well caught by Hugh diving to his left.

It was 0 – 0 at half time.

Eagles started the second half the brighter and they had an early chance when Troy laid a good ball back to Joe whose well struck shot went just over. The next attack saw a goal for the Eagles rightly disallowed for offside but the Eagles were gathering momentum.

Kyle produced a good run down the right and a dangerous cross into the box but there was no one there to finish.

Next came the goal. Pro Potential failed to clear a corner from the right and the ball fell to Troy who smashed it into the net from close range. We would now see whether Pro Potential could respond but they failed to make an impression on a determined Eagles defence. Indeed with the minutes that remained it was Eagles who created the better chances.

Troy, Kyle and Tylah combined well down the left but Tylah’s shot was comfortable saved by the keeper. Louis shot when he should have crossed but as he game drew to a close it was Eagles who were on top.

The final chance fell to Joe but the ball was adjudged to have gone out of play before he crossed the ball.

As he final whistle blew, Eagles had battled hard and had deserved their win.
