Classy ‘Eagles’ too good for Parkfield

Despite the score line, Eagles were the worthy winners of this encounter played on a cold morning and on a boggy full sized pitch. The secret to the win was that the boys never lost their composure and let there football do the talking.

The game took some time to settle down with the only action of the opening minutes being an attack down the left by Parkfield when their attacker hit a long range shot over the bar and Troy being harshly judged offside following a promising Eagles attack.  On eight minutes though the game burst into life.

First Eagles took the lead when a corner was headed in at the far post by Louis, possibly the shortest player on the pitch lost. If that defending was bad within a minute Parkfield were level when Callum and Sam jumped for the same ball, the ball fell to a Parkfield striker who hit a high shot over Ben and into the net – the keeper had no chance.

After eleven minutes were back in front. Louis, the star of the first half, went on a dazzling run down the left and found Tylah on he edge of the six yard box and he coolly beat the advancing goalkeeper at his near post. Shortly afterwards had a good shot saved by the goalkeeper with the rebound falling toTylah who missed with a header when it was easier to score.

Kyle has a great chance after 20 minutes when he was found with a lovely pass from Troy but the keeper made another good save. As the game went on them Eagles were well on top with Ben a mere spectator.

After twenty five minutes Eagles extended their lead when after a good move down the right the ball found its way to Louis who scored his second of the game with a low finish past the advancing goalkeeper. This was no more than the boys deserved as whilst Parkfield were not a bad side, they did not have the passing game of the Eagles and were under the cosh!

As the first half closed Eagles made it 4 - 1 when Troy received the ball near the corner lag and weaved his way through the Parkfield defence and scored with a crisp right foot drive.

As the second half started eagles temporarily went to sleep as Parkfield pressed forward. Hugh was quickly off his line to stop one attack smothering the ball well at the feet of an attacker. Parkfield were however enjoying a lot of success down their right wing and soon made this pay when they scored two goals in two minutes bringing themselves back into the game. Whilst Eagles had started the half badly, encouraged by Adam to ‘sort their lives out’ they raised their game are were soon back in their stride. A lovely move after forty two minutes saw us extend our lead again when a good move by Kyle, Troy and Joe left Joe with en easy tap in to make it 5 – 3.

After forty five minutes we had another great chance but Tylah was too greedy when he should have passed and the chance was lost.

Parkfield still occasionally threatened at the other end and after forty six minutes they nearly scored hen the Eagles defence failed to mark up at all and an attacker hit a fierce drive just wide.

The next action was Joe Town hitting a superb cross into the Parkfield box but there was no one on the end of it. A real shame as this would have been a great goal.

The last real action of the game was a smart save by Hugh down low to his left

which prevented the crowd suffering a nervous last couple of minutes.

So the Eagles march on them having given Parkfield a lesson in passing the football and in a game hen the score line did not reflect Eagles superiority.
